Canada 11 June: Memramcook, New Brunswick

Live from the road report by Sarah and Caitlin, 11 June, Memramcook, New Brunswick:

The Memramcook Bluegrass Festival is an annual event at which residents of the local community gather to be serenaded by some of the finest Bluegrass players that Eastern Canada has to offer.

We were impressed by the excellence and professionalism of the musicians from the moment of our arrival. Festival organizer and musician Francis Cormier is a man of humour and sincerity. He introduced us with gusto in a manner that showed his feeling for all that the World Harmony Run represents.

The group of musicians that had just finished performing remained on the stage to provide an instrumental backing for the singing of the World Harmony Run song, which was performed in the style of an authentic Bluegrass ballad including instrumental breaks and ending with a beautiful mandolin solo. The crowd was generous in applauding the run and the torch was passed as Francis and his band The Bluegrass Diamonds began their set.

The song “You Go to Your Church and I‘ll Go To Mine”, which deals with religious tolerance and the idea that people of different backgrounds and beliefs can work together to prevail against the challenges of life, was dedicated to the World Harmony Run. When they finished playing, Francis gave us the glad handshake and passed us a signed copy of the latest The Bluegrass Diamonds CD which we gratefully accepted.

Thanks again to all the wonderful musicians for bringing joy and song into the world.
