Toronto: September 14

“Day For Youth” at the Interfaith Centre – University of Toronto
A wonderful meeting of people from many of the world’s major religions welcomed the World Harmony runners today, Sunday Sept 14, at the “Day For Youth” sponsored by the World Spirit Youth Council and the Interfaith Dept. of Scarborough Missions.  The run went 2 km from Annapurna Restaurant - 1085 Bathurst St; to the Interfaith Centre at the University of Toronto, and some 200 people participated.

Father Terry Gallagher is a devoted friend of the Harmony Run, and was the super-excellent introducer of the Run.  He felt that the World Harmony Run and torch-passing was a most appropriate and sacred ceremonial way to commence this special day.  The Run is truly global, and fittingly teenagers from South Africa, Nepal, Romania, Germany, England, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and the United States who had just experienced 5 days of First Nations traditions and practices were leading the workshops. The desire frequently expressed by the young people to bring their knowledge from the head to the heart and to manifest oneness was a perfect fit for the message of the Harmony Run.

The founder of “Children of the Earth”, Nina Meyerhof has met Sri Chinmoy on four occasions at the United Nations in New York, and was very enthusiastic. She read out the famous quote by Sri Chinmoy: “The outer message of the United Nations is peace, the inner message of the United Nations is love, the inmost message of the United Nations is oneness.”  Today’s event was part of an 11 day lead-in to the September 21st U.N.Day of Peace.

Father Gallagher is a seasoned marathon runner with a giant musical voice that needs no microphone!  He led the proceedings and made the experience fun, enlightening, and deeply moving for all.   Father Gallagher also insisted that we give an account of Sri Chinmoy’s many-sided contributions to world peace and harmony, and his legacy to mankind.   Father Terry recalled his profound experience of meditating with Sri Chinmoy at the opening ceremony of the Barcelona World Parliament of Religions.  The Harmony Run would like to offer our heart’s gratitude to him for his unfailing sincerity and enthusiasm.  A hearty thank-you also to the World Spirit Youth Council.
