Canada 2 May : Creston - Kimberley
A very special thank you to Al and Sigrid Hert, owners of the beautiful Valley View Motel, for their generous support by way of complimentary cabins for our night in Creston. We loved our beautifully cared for cabins - like a real home away from home!
A great way to wake up! Just find a nice steep hill!
We had three school visits in Creston this morning.
First, the Adam Robertson Elementary School charmed us with their enthusiastic participation and their great singing performance.
We are very grateful to Principal Rod Giles for his support, encouragement and all his countless good deeds contributing to world harmony.
The next school that gave us a very warm welcome was Erickson Elementary School.
The children just love games. Here we presented some skits where they can decide between harmony and disharmony.
Principal Nancy De Vuono receives a Certificate of Appreciation.
Arriving through the beautiful scenery of the surrounding mountain range, we came to Canyon Lister Elementary School, which will be British Colombia's first UNESCO
We were extremely happy to present a Torch-Bearer Award to a young student named Travis for his indomitable courage, kindness and friendship.
Travis with his parents.
Principal David Jalconer received a Certificate of Appreciation dedicated to his school for all their contribution to world harmony.
Passing around the torch.
Running to Yahk.
The elderly community in Yahk offered us the most delicious homemade lunch and sweets, which we enjoyed so much! Trying to cover all our daily mileage our bellies get empty very fast.
Children from Yahk Elementary School did a very sweet presentation for us; each student had a beautiful handmade sign with a short aphorism about how they would like to contribute to our world oneness.
A Torch-Bearer Award was presented to elder Lee Rose for his dedicated service to his community.
He presented us with this poem for peace, that he had written:
By R. Lee Rose
Peace is more than the mere absence of war,
Or the result of politicians signing a treaty.
Peace is much deeper than the silence in a battlefield
After the fighting and carnage has ended.
Peace is more than the quietness in the cemetery,
For that stillness is mingled with loss and regret.
True Peace is freedom from strife and fear,
And from contention of every kind.
While Peace does not demand conformity,
It still promotes harmonious living.
Peace lives in the hearts of its inhabitants
And is nourished by trust and acceptance.
Peace can not be legislated into existence,
However, legislation can destroy it.
Although it is desired and sought after,
Peace is not a natural state for mankind,
The ways of Peaceful Living must be learned.
Let us honor those who promote the ways.
From Yahk we had a long run through the windy roads surrounded by mountains with snowy peaks, lakes and farmland. I just love the feeling of vastness, freedom and peace!
The closer we got to Kimberley, our final destination for today, the clearer was the view of the majestic Rocky Mountain chain.
The town of Kimberley, the town with the highest altitude in Canada, welcomed us not only with its spectacular natural beauty all around, but also with its very warm, kind and peace loving citizens.
Among them the City Councilor Darryl Oakley...
and the Executive director of Chamber of Commerce Sioban Staplin.
The torch was passed around with a profound feeling of oneness and peace, many people had tears in their eyes. We just fell in love with this town, where they would like to be known by the motto: "Kimberley-Naturally Happy!"
Dinner after a long day. We were so delighted Sioban and her son Nathan joined us.
