Caribbean 13 June: Grenada

The run started in beautiful hills of Crochu. Minister of Sport the Hon. Roland Bhola made the opening remarks and shared the torch with Dennis Michael and Kenrick Fullerton form the opposition, in the spirit of the run.

Many of the students from the schools the World Harmony Run team visited yesterday came out and ran.

About one hour into the 20 mile run it started to pour. But that did not stop Richard Hughes, Grenada’s National tennis coach from running.

As the run went up and down the hills of the Grenada’s magnificent countryside hundreds of students came out to either cheer the runners on or as Raymond Duncan from the Vincennes Sports Club, run with the torch.

The hills were no match for Gleanis Roberts, member of the opposition who carried the torch proudly.

Many members of prominent members of Grenada’s community came out, like Rawle Lewis of the West Indies Cricket Team, who shared the torch with some kindergarten students.

As the run neared the end at Tanteen, Minster Bhola gave the torch to Minster Yolande Vain-Horfford, who carried the torch in high heels. At the closing ceremony Minister of Sport Bhola thank everyone for putting on the event.

Eunice Sandy David, permanent secretary, who for the second year in a row organized the World Harmony Run and made it the tremendous success it was.

The Harmony Run team Wishes to thank Russ and Magdalena owners of True Blue Bay Resort and Villas, not only for providing the team with accommodation but for also making the team feel like family.

Special thanks to Indigo Car Rental for kindly offering us the use of a car during our stay in Grenada.

On the way home we stopped in Antigua where the Big Banana Restaurant once again came through in our moment of need at the airport with a fantastic meal. Big thanks to Helen Aaron.
