England 12 March: Birmingham

Today was school day in Birmingham! Four schools were on our schedule - lots of fun to come!

Our first meeting took us to Watermill Primary School!

...kids collect stamps...

...and we collect smiles...

Thanks for this hearty meeting!

..that's our running route...

Whenever you come to Birmingham, eat at Bobby's - real Iranian cuisine!

Next was the Nelson Mandela School.

We really enjoyed this fantastic international athmosphere.

..let's celebrate friendship...

...and a great run in the schoolyard...

Then we visted Sarehole Mill near where J.R.R.Tolkien grew up.

At the mill we met the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, who told us about the mill and the Tolkien connection. The Lord Mayor happens to be the chairman of the Tolkien Society, so we got nice insights on how the area around the mill had influenced Tolkien's work...

Our Canadian runner tries out some new headgear!

Then it was on to the next school.

Stamps at the ready...

Wyndcliffe was our third school and the students were very enthusiastic participants!

..help!...

Then we visited Boardsley Green Primary School.

...that's how it all works...

Our last school, but the largest of the day!

..."High Fives" for 700 children! Our hands were swollen...

..the children set up a special relay run across the schoolyard...

...and a final group picture...
