England 23 March: Guildford - Portsmouth

We started our day at Sandfield Primary School in Guildford...

The head teacher Ms Maria Curtis, who is an avid runner herself, gave us a warm welcome.

...the children are getting ready for the meeting...

...we carry lots of stuff with us...

...Several of the children go running together once a week (5 kilometres)...

The school has students from 27 different countries. Each class focuses on a specific foreign language, everything from Polish to Urdu. They are going to check our website regularly to follow our progress!

We ran through some spectacular countryside - in the rain!

...she didn't mind the rain...

....rain can't break our spirit...

...serious stretching...

In the afternoon we arrived at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum in Singleton.

The staff received us warmly and gave us an interesting tour of the grounds.

....some school children were visiting the museum, too. We organised a spontaneous meeting...

Now in its 40th year, the museum has preserved traditional English houses, some dating back to the 16th Century.

Thanks for the nice tour!

...hard workout!...

At 3 p.m. we reached Chichester Cathedral...

We were greeted by a priest who gave us a comprehensive tour of one of the finest buildings in England.

..."sister"??? Nirbhasa...

We sang the World Harmony Run song - the acoustics were spectacular.

Our host blessed the torch and commented that, like Christ, we are spreading light.

...the cathedral was highly decorated with modern art...

..our final miles to Portsmouth...

Our final 19 miles brought us to the sea, and the end of our journey in the United Kingdom.

Our British runners spontaneously sang the "Great Britain"  Song! - a perfect ending to the great time we had these last weeks. Cheers to everybody!
