Iceland 27 July: Blönduós - Holtavörðuheiði

Today we, or actually the runner-heroes from USAH, began running from Blönduós town. They wanted to run with us to the end of their county, and so manager Guðmundur Þór Elíasson and Kristinn Snjólfsson returned, this time bringing five fresh runners, whose names are:

Magnús Örn Valsson, Jenný Rut Valsdóttir, Sigríður Soffía Þorleifsdóttir, Haraldur Páll Þórsson and Jón Árni Magnússon.

After the USAH people had started running, the boys' World Harmony Run team made a quick detour at the auto-repair shop at Blönduós, where Elli took a look at one of our spare torches. He screwed everything loose and then declared that the shaft was indeed broken and nothing much to be done about it presently. We thanked him and caught up with the Run.

The USAH kids ran to Gljúfrá, which marks the end of their county. In doing so, their running had spanned the full length of the county, all the way from Vatnshlíðarvatn, where they started running yesterday. We hope we will see all of them again.

It was the boys' team lot to start running from Gljúfrá and continue to Laugabakki. The weather was nice and the atmosphere was mellow until a dog from a nearby farmhouse enthusiastically joined us. One should not undervalue the participation of the animals in this Run; Dogs, horses, sheep, birds and other animals have run with us this year, creating a certain atmosphere thereby.

The girls' team finished today's run. They got reinforcements in the form of Steinunn, who returned to the Run with her granddaughter Hafdís. The girls got the task of running upp Holtavörðuheiði hills.

The weather was rather bad at Holtavörðuheiði; there was a dense fog and a lot of traffic, and so the girls were glad when they finished. Another thing that made them glad was the reception of the passing drivers. Many people stopped their cars to ask us how it was going and how far we have left to go and then cheer us on. It seems that people are well informed about the Run, which is perhaps not surprising, as the Run has been in the news a bit.
