Iceland 8 June: Borgarnes - Artún, Reykjavik
Getting closer and closer to the city of Reykjavik, we are enjoying our run like anything. The weather has just been amazingly kind to us all the time - we haven't got wet so far, which really means something in Iceland.
Today we observed a real Viking act: swimming in the icy cold Atlantic ocean, from one side of a fjord to the other. Covering the distance of nearly 3 km in astonishing speed, Halfdan Örnolfsson helped us, considerably shortening our way (as otherwise we would have had to run all the way round the fjord to get to the other side). Two TV stations came to record the scene and after we managed to get our cars, stuck in the sand, going again, we passed through the city limits of Reykjavik.
Early in the morning (just after midnight) we climbed up a nearby volcano.
Imagining the power of the volcanic eruption, the hot lava covering the whole area...
Suren at his best.
The place where the swimmers entered the ocean.
This is our great swimming champion, Halfdan Örnofsson.
Brave Viktoria has already swum across the fjord a few times too.
The rescue team.
Just about to arrive at the other shore.
Mirek from Czech Republic joined Halfdan, just for the last few metres.
The goal is won! Congratuations!
Less than 10 degrees Celsius - the estimated temperature of the water.
Next adventure: Getting the car out of the sand.
We decided we'd better stick to running, instead of swimming.
Hvalfjördur, the 'Whale fjord'.
Enjoying our last day of running in the countryside.
Besides running and organising the Harmony Run, Ondrej's main hobby is taking all the pictures you see here.
What an awesomely beautiful view! - or is it just a picture hanging on the wall?
We had our farewell-dinner here - as delicious as can be.
Distance: 91 km
