India 23 December: Kerala

St Mary’s High School in Vaikom, Kerala received the torch of the World Harmony Run with an official school gathering. Subarnamala Anke Riedel from Germany, a frequent participant of the World Harmony run since 1991 handed the torch to principle Alice and introduced the worldwide event to students and teachers.

The children were invited to feel peace and harmony in their own hearts during a moment of peace led by Subarnamala. This was followed by a performance of the World Harmony Run Song by Subarnamala and two of St Mary’s students. (Many thanks to the two girls who voluntered to learn the song with me only two days prior to the event and were courageous to join the performance! I really appreciated that!)

A group of students were then able to join in the worldwide event by running a lap around the school compound holding the torch. However all 1060 students took part in the World Harmony Run when the runners and Subarnamala visited every classroom. Everyone got to hold the torch and connect with other children and runners all around the world. It may look a small step towards a better and more harmonious and peaceful world but it is definitely worth taking it!

I would like to thank all who supported the event: Dr. Vijith from Shreekrishna Ayurveda Centre, Alice, principle of St Mary’s High School, the teachers Sushila and Prince, as well as all students.

– Subarnamala A. Riedel
