Our first official event in Italy was at the University of Palermo where we presented a lecture about Sport and the Harmony Run to the Faculty of Physical Sciences. The director of Sport, Prof Antonio Palma, emphasised the importance of using sport to promote cultural understanding in the world.
In the afternoon we were free from any commitments so we took opportunity to do some maintenance on the car, to buy some healthfood supplements and running shoes.
The ancient architecture and sculpures in the city are always magnificent.
Some locals pose for a quick photo.
In the evening Laura, our local coordinator, invited us to have dinner with with her family. Their son, Alessandro, kept us all entertained with his conversational skills. He seemed oblivious to the fact the we did not speak Italian but it gave us tremendous joy to listen to him speak.
The Cammalleri family served a traditional Sicilian dinner including local cheeses, olives and Papa´ Calogero's famous Spaghetti con Mollica which warmed our stomachs after the cold and wet day. To eat in a real Sicilian's home is an experience we will treasure forever.
