12. Dr Margaret Belton

Dr Belton is a highly respected retired medical doctor with a long history of service to the Nelson community. She is a long serving member of the National Council of Women representing the Bahai women of Nelson. She has organised numerous World Peace Days, World Religions Days, International Woman's Days, Race Unity Days and other United Nations Days, seminars and events. She is the author of a book entitled 'Millennium Stardust- Making Peace Inevitable'.

She is involved locally and nationally with activities and projects in association with the Bahá’í Faith and runs children’s classes at her home based on the Bahá’í writings and major world religions. She served on the inaugural Nelson Multi-Ethnic Council and has assisted numerous refugees both in billeting and with their welfare in resettlement. She is a tireless community and social worker. She has been hostess to countless international renowned dignitaries visiting Nelson to promote their work in world peace and race relations. She is a promoter and tutor of the Virtues Programme in schools.

All this while being a wonderful mother of 13 children and stepchildren, grandmother to 34 and 17 great grandchildren plus surrogate mum/grandma and valued friend of many from all walks of life.
