Russia 14 June: Tver - Torzhok
This morning there was some time for relaxation. We started at 10 hrs - enough time to tidy up our support van; we will try to keep it that way for the next few days.
In the north of Tver we had a meeting, where a representative of the city lit the torch and ran the first few meters with us. Today our friends from the Tver Police Academy joined us for one more day. They are really good runners, and it is nice to share their enthusiasm.
Just like yesterday the support van drove and stopped every 5 km so the runner could drink some water or could get replaced.
Martin had a rather unusual incident when he went to walk a few meters along the sandy part next to the road. First the sand bank seemed quite solid, he said, but at one spot it felt funny to walk on and suddenly the surface gave way, and Martin sank into the mud that was hidden under the sand. When we saw him, he was already stuck to the knees. He had a hard times getting his sandals out of the dirt but he managed in the end. Two of our boys who helped him out couldn't help but to laugh at the sight of him.
Just after the exit at Torzhok we were welcomed with traditional bread and a group of children. Together we ran more than half an hour through the city.
We finished the day with a ceremony just on the sport field close to the gym where we stayed for the night.
Because we only did 61 km today we had already finished at 4 o'clock. Nataliya took the opportunity again to do some 38 kilometers today, and the others also enjoyed running in a group. Running feels much easier together than alone.
In the evening we had dinner in a restaurant and afterwards there was some time for washing the car and even a game of table tennis!
