USA 9 June: Centerville, UT to Logan, UT

After spending a luxurious evening at the Salt Lake City Hilton we

reluctantly left our hotel to begin the day.

And it was another wonderful day in the Harmony Run….the landscape has changed a lot in the last 2 weeks, we are now in Logan, Utah, where snow capped mountains surround us and vastness envelops us.

Today after running our miles the team met the children at the Boys and Girls Club in Logan, sprinting the last few meters, we were greeted most enthusiastically by both students and counselors. Erika did a great job organizing this event with our coordinators and Kim was also very helpful in getting the kids out for us. After settling in and saying hello, our team members made their introductions, beginning with our team captain, Arpan Stefano Francesco De Angelo….long name, kids love it. By the way do you know how to say peace in Italian? “PACE!”

Following Arpan, Elke introduced a word in her native language, “Gruess Gott” which means hello in Austria. Maria asked what word do you connect with Harmony? ‘Svoboda’, which means freedom in Bulgarian, was the chosen word of the children. All the team members have their own and unique way of introducing themselves…the children raise their hands and ask us to say different words in our native languages and then they repeat them.

Although some of them have a bit of trouble with these strange foreign words, they love to learn them and repeat them as loudly as possible. It’s a very nice way for us to connect and unite with the people we encounter along the way. The counselors and staff did a wonderful job organizing the ceremony and we are very grateful for the opportunity to have met them and the children today.

Our team has now 12 members and 11 different nationalities; it shows us that there are really no boundaries when it comes to diversity.

Thank you to Jamba Juice for some much needed and much enjoyed refreshments.

Tonight the women’s team was in charge of dinner and we were kindly sponsored by Fazoli’s Italian Restaurant. We were met by April, the General Manager and Josh, the Manager, who were both so gracious and generous to 12 hungry runners. Thank you for the delicious meal!!!

Afterwards, we were offered four comfortable rooms at the Best Western Weston Inn. We are extremely grateful to them for supporting us in this way as we pass through Logan and this incredibly beautiful area of Utah.
