USA 21 June: Florence, OR to Lincoln City, OR

Divija’s exuberant joy overflows to everyone who sees her bounding down the scenic Oregon byways.

Video of the first month in USA

After drinking in the majestic power of the North Western Pacific Coast, we were renewed and ready for our next five thousand miles.

It was a long drive to the small town of Elmira, Oregon where my brother and his family live in their spacious home in the fir tree forest. But it was well worth the trip indeed.

Wildlife of every shape and size are right at home in the De Angelo estate.

The trees are tall and straight, like giant monoliths reaching for the light at every moment. Everything is a deep green with moss growing in the thickest part of the woods where the moisture is thick and the light is obstructed by the dense growth.

Dori immerses herself in a Martial Arts workout surrounded by the silent morning forest.

A very hot sauna fueled by a wood burning stove was a great way to warm up after a cold and windy run yesterday.

Uncle Arpan gets assistance with lunch preparations from his young nephew Nicky.

Our whole team enjoyed the morning off as we were able to share in a delicious breakfast cooked by Linda, the ‘lady of the house’.

Salil takes advantage of the early quiet hours to put the finishing touches on another video of our adventures.

We also made some time for a hike around the property viewing some interesting surrounding areas such as a horse corral, forest replantation, a tree house that used to have working bathrooms and kitchen, and lots of trees, huge Douglas Fir trees. It was truly a restful and harmonious morning with the DeAngelo family acting as perfect hosts in their woodland home.

Our daily running started with a ceremony at the Boys and Girls Club in Florence. We had been there last year and some of the children remembered us and were thrilled that we came back to share our inspiration with them.

One of the young girls told me that she cannot wait to grow up so she can participate in the Harmony Run. They were all smiles when Bangshidhar taught them the Hawaiian harmony dance, the Hula, followed by us all singing our theme song written by the founder, Sri Chinmoy.

Moving outside, all the 50 children or so and the staff as well, led by Aaron Long, had a mini harmony run with the torch around the playground. The children were full of excitement and enthusiasm as they all had a chance to hold or touch the Torch and make a wish for something good in the world.

Two of the girls were actually named Harmony. We had to have them hold the Harmony Torch together making it a threesome of harmony. We are so grateful to all the children and the staff for making this trip through Florence a truly exciting and memorable one.

The headwinds were very challenging today as we ran along the impressive and beautiful Pacific coastline. The rough and rugged ocean waves crashing along the rocky shores made for dramatic and energizing runs up highway 101.

Finishing in Lincoln City, we made our way to the Coyote Creek Campground where we were kindly offered spacious accommodations for our vehicles and tents. We are very grateful for this very peaceful space with a calm river flowing by to make our stay even more enjoyable and harmonious. We were even invited back next year as we look forward to maintaining all the new friendships that we are privileged to make along the way.
