USA 29 May: Novato CA

The Lu Sutton Elementary School in Novato, California happens to be the school that our good friend Tom Pujari Scheaffer teaches at. He is a third grade teacher there with a classroom of about 20 children. We have heard some nice things about the children and the school in the past and now we had an opportunity to visit them and share a World Harmony Run experience with them.

Mr. Scheaffer prepared a nice program with the children as we were welcomed to the school by the Principal, Suzanne Thompson, and all the staff and children on the outdoor patio.

We offered our introductions as usual and had some help from the women's team of runners that came up from San Francisco. They performed a cute little skit where the children had to decide whether the story represented harmony or not. The third grade children of Mr. Scheaffer's class read out what harmony meant to them. All the children took part in the 'Harmony Begins with Me' chant quite loudly and enthusiastically. They also helped us to sing our Theme song first after singing 'This Land is Your Land' with Mr. Scheaffer and third grade teacher Mr. Dave Weaver, playing guitars.

The teachers then led the Harmony Train into the field where each classroom took part in a run around the playground with the Torch. Each group of children had a huge sign representing a continent. The children were eager to get their turn to run around the huge circle of continents. On this bright and sunny day in Marin County without the clouds that usually envelope the more immediate San Francisco area, we felt the energy of harmony and enthusiasm that was generated at the Lu Sutton School by all the children and staff. Thanks to Mr. Scheaffer, who has taken part in many of the World Harmony Runs in various parts of this country and others, we had a very memorable experience at this wonderful school.

Gratefully, California Harmony Dreamers
