USA 3 August: Chicago

As is traditional for the World Harmony Run team in Chicago we began our day with a sumptuous feast at Victory's Banner, a vegetarian restaurant that offers a delicious breakfast and lunch menu 6 days a week.

From there we headed over to the Chinese American Service League where we made a presentation to two classes of young students who also shared with us their own thoughts on harmony and how to create it in their own lives.

We played games with the children and sang our World Harmony Run song with them. One of the games we played was a relay where the children had to run to a certain point answer a multiple choice question on how to create harmony then run back and pass the baton to the next team member. It was very exciting and lots of fun.

Our host Brenda Arksey arranged a delicious Chinese meal for us as well as a very interesting tour our the Center which is a social service agency serving the needs of newly-arrived Chinese Americans who often do not have formal education, possess few transferable job skills, and are unfamiliar with their new home in America.

Afterwards Edward James of the Chicago Area Project (CAP) took us to visit with two CAP affiliates in preparation for tomorrow's event the CAP Games - a track and field event for youth from 31 community organizations in the Chicago area. We visited the Harvest Holistic Community Centre and then onto the Wentworth Residents United for Survival.

That evening we returned to Victory's Banner for a specially prepared Italian meal which was truly phenomenal - prepared by Steve Sciuto. Desserts of Blueberry Cobbler and Tiramisu rounded out the meal beautifully.
