USA 16 April: Slackwood, NJ to Newark, DE

This morning we were nice greeted by several students of the Girard College Track and Field team. Richard Sanders, Jennifer King and Sabir Hall very nicely ran the torch 2 miles to the college.

Their team and ours merge as one as they approach campus. Ken Taylor - to the left of the banner - organized the group of athletes to escort us in. We love having runners join us.

Many of the students created banners to celebrate our arrival.

The students a very stirring arrangement of the World Harmony Run song.

The choir was accompanied by a very talented band. We hope to have a recording of the song on the site soon.

Fire commissioner Lloyd Ayers offered an enthusiastic welcome - embracing deeply the message of the run.

Olympic Handball player Steve Kirk graciously present our Torch Bearer Award to three outstanding student citizens.

Our Romanian runner, Edi shares a few words about his experiences on the run. He will be leaving us soon to go run around the entire Australian content!

Mr. James Turner, Director of Residential Life was kind enough to to be our emcee.

We would like to thank Ms. Elizabeth Becker, Principal of the Elementary School at Girard college for arranging such an amazing ceremony. We would also like to thank the President of Girard, Dominic Cermele, for hosting us in such a wonderful venue. We look forward to our next visit!

Our day continued in Wilmington Delaware at the Boys and Girls Club where we were greeted by a very excited and very sweet group of children.

We shared the message of the run and got the chance to answer some great questions.

Then we got the chance to run with the children in a near by ball field. If it weren't for size you would not be able to choose which ones were the children. Children always remind us to be joyful, open hearted and excited about life.

We love visiting Boys and Girls clubs. We feel they offer an invaluable service in the community by providing the students the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment. We hope to visit many more across the country.

Lastly we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Media Inn Motor Lodge for yet again hosting the team for the night. Media Inn has generously supported the team on every run since 1997!
