USA 19 May: Union City, OK - Carter, OK

In a small town in the middle of Oklahoma, we found big hearts, and beautiful smiles at Spencer Elementary.

The track team was thrilled to be able to join our team for a short run into the school.

The entire school lined the road to cheer the runners on.

Waving self-made flags from around the world, everyone delighted at the appearance of the torch.

When each runner introduced their country, all of the children holding the flag eagerly ran to offer it with joy.

Principal Linda Matthews has been a dear friend of the run for well over a decade. Her support and tireless work for harmony in her school and in her community earned her our special Torch Bearer Award.

Cute faces, big eyes, and full hearts.

The road to the second ceremony flowed through our country's waving wheat fields.

Alone amongst the vastness.

Principal Angela Houston welcomed the runners to Eisenhower Elementary for our second ceremony of the day.

It was a great school filled with beautiful and bright kids.

The state flag was unfurled with pride, and we knew our time in the great state of Oklahoma was coming to an end. We have had a wonderful time in Oklahoma and have found only the warmest hospitality everywhere we have gone.

Pizza Hut in Elk City donated a delicious dinner for the team. We had a very nice time and are very thankful to them.

The Holiday Inn in Elk City was our home for the evening. General Manager Sharon Frittz joined us to hold the torch and make a wish for harmony. She and her terrific staff where so very kind to us and they run a terrific and unique hotel. Thank You!!!
