USA 29 May: Tsegi, AZ - Grey Mountain, AZ

The highlight of the day was running with local Tuba City school children from Tonalea, AZ to Tuba City, AZ - a distance of about 22 miles.

As you can see our new found friends only knew one way to run - flat out.

Every 400 meters or so a new runner got the torch - a total of 13 children were in the rotation.

We had trouble keeping up!

Only Vladimir was able to do more than a couple of miles without falling off the pace.

It was windy and uphill.

When I remarked about the stiff headwind this young fellow informed me enthusiastically, "We train in this kind of wind." That was before leaving me in the dust.

Sister and brother.

Lisa, holding the torch, is one of the local coaches and she organized the children's participation. Thanks so much, it was a great experience!

A vast blue sky was a constant companion today.

As we got closer to Tuba City all the runners got out and the pace went up a notch.

Now we know what tireless means.

A parental cheer squad met us at the school.

Some of the runners quietly relaxing with their parents.

Passing the torch.

Future participant?

Everybody waves goodbye.

This girl's name was 'Pretty' - she was a great runner - keep it up!!

Afterward we were treated to a wonderful buffet style meal with the staff and board of the school. It was a very spontaneous offer. It was like being part of a big family meal - and we were part of the family. Thank you so much, it was wonderful to meet you all!
