St. Kitts, 11 June: Braving the Storm

Somehow, the storm lifted a bit and the St. Kitts airport re-opened so we could land and have a most memorable run. The Deputy Prime Minister put on his running shoes and came out to run as the clouds lifted a bit and the rain subsided.

We started the St Kitts run at the Ferry/Bus terminal in the centre of town along with a special guest, the Hon. Sam Terence Condor, Acting Prime Minister. To say that he treated us and members of the public like old friends would be an understatement. Here was the acting Prime Minister with no assistants or guards happily mixing with the citizens of his country and the team.

The group set out around the city having a great time clapping and running in rhythm. We were also joined by students from the Clan Carthy High School, who braved the rain and flooded roads to run with us. Like all the children we run with, they really were beaming while running with the torch and sloshing through the streets.

Despite the storm, St. Kitts shined.

We would like to offer a special thanks to Leroy Greene for organizing the whole day in connection with the St Kitts Tourism Department. Leroy did an outstanding job given our delayed arrival and the difficult weather conditions.

The Hon. Richard Skerritt, Minister of Sport, truly embraces the ideals of the run and all it stands for.

When we first contact Mr Skerritt he felt the importance of using sport to connect people from around the world with a common goal of harmony and frienship. We are eternally grateful for his decision to support our efforts and look forward to returning to St Kitts in the future.

The Rastaman Sakshat tucks his dreds into the sky-high hat.

Sugar Bay Club manager Lisa and the warm staff hosted us with open hearts and warm enthusiam for the run. We are most grateful for the accommodations on short notice.

A view of the hotel and bay from the green hills and mountains of beautiful St. Kitts. St. Kitts is definitely one of the most beautiful places in the world that we have ever been to. Its so green and lush and the beaches are amazing.
