Estonia 27 June: Mustvee - Pikajärve

Here we are - ready for another day in Estonia. Anne is the first runner today. After 3 km she is meeting the first runner to join her. Just like yesterday, there is someone waiting by the road every few hundred metres.

Conny is running with a couple of children. It was not too easy, she says afterwards, because the kids would just sprint to the next one waiting along the way - and then the next, and the next...

Everyone can take a step for harmony...

On the way to Kallaste we met these kind-hearted people. They were waiting for us with instruments and dressed in traditional garments. We were given nice, colourful headscarves. In the picture, you can see Anne wearing hers while running...

It turned into a very spontaneous and joyful gathering right on the road. Music, dancing, a few encouraging words and the next team of runners is on its way...

The torch is being handed over to the next runner. Ready, set - GO...

Thank you all for joining the Run!

When we reached Alatksivi a small surprise is waiting for us: chocolate and a big bottle of water, both with "World Harmony Run 2008" on the label.

Unique : WHR chocolate and water.

After we had a group picture taken, the group of children led us up to the nearby castle. The kids told us that the castle is actually a smaller replica of the original that stands somewhere in Scotland. The owner had seen it there and simply wanted one for himself as well...

These girls (plus a few more) from the local sport club are waiting for us at the entrance to Tartu.

The deputy major received us in front of the city hall. Afterwards he even ran with us for a few hundred metres...

Thanks girls! Great job...

It took less than 3 km to run into the next group of people who wanted to join the Run for a while. The people of Reola had a short reception prepared, where we were given fresh home-made bread.

Traditional music and costumes.

Tired but happy...

The last group for today.

They led us from the border of Otepää almost all the way to the town of Pikajärve, where we are to stay overnight.

It is Shobhini's birthday today. She invited us to dinner at the Cantervilla, after saunas and showers; this huge house has over 70 rooms and is more than a hundred years old.

Happy birthday Shobhini :)

At Pikajärve lake, at about 11:30 p.m.

In the distance you can still see the glow of the late sunset...
