Estonia 28 June: Pikajärve - Estonian / Latvian border

Our last day in Estonia has dawned...

Having a look at the beautiful pictures by Prabhakar from the Australian part of the WHR, I got inspired and decided to put some more shots of mine up.

I found time first thing in the morning, after we launched the first of our runners. By now we are used to the unusual number of runners waiting for us every few km.

Põlvamaa jooksjad

Runners from Põlvamaa run together with Anne.

Our Estonian coordinator Shobhini, running through the hamlet of Kanepi.

She told us later that she spent her holidays here many times during her childhood.

Tamas with runners from the Võru orientation running club.

They actually only planned to stay for a little while, but it somehow turned out differently - more about it a little later...

Around noon we arrived at Võru. A couple of boys from the local volleyball team joined us on the way to the church.

Kind words and a warm welcome.

The group in front of the church at Võru.

Yes, we are ready – let's go!...

That's how things look for me when I follow the runners through a city.

Runners would join in very spontaneously. Davids was very happy about this. He was very intrigued by the "running shoes " one of the boys was wearing..

Picturesque scenery all our way.

Sometimes landscapes appear so 'universal' that you get the feeling you could be anywhere in the world.

Conny met this nice lady on the way. She lives just next to the road in a very old but well-conserved house. She immediately showed us around and told us many, many things. Unfortunately we were not able to understand everything she said. Yet we were able to communicate - who actually cares about language... :)

Tiina, our cook and caretaker, with the nice lady...

I especially want to mention the two gentlemen on the left:

Vampula Oper and Sixten Sild from the Võru orientation running club only planned to run through their region, Võru. We had already said goodbye when suddenly, 10 minutes later, they showed up again. I smilingly asked them what they are doing here. "We heard you could do with some runners along the way..." was their reply. So they stayed for the next 50 km, to the Latvian border. Thank you s.o.o.o.o.o.o much!! You should check out their webpage.

The last couple of km before the border.

Thank you Estonia for the great time we had. Goodbye! See you the next time on the Run...
