Lithuania 1 July: Border with Latvia - Ignalina

Hello Lithuania :)...

A big group of Latvian and Lithuanian runners crossed the border together...

...still with us - a news team from Daugavpils. Can you see? Kristina, the PR lady, is steering the car while the cameraman is filming the runners...

The group ran the first 4 km together, into the town of Zarasai.

On the way I saw these old mailboxes. I had to stop the car and jump out to take a quick shot. They looked simply too cool...

In front of the Zarasai city hall.

We were given a nice welcome there. After we took some refreshments, representatives from the city administration ran  with us for a couple of hundred metres.

... so many storks around here. This is one approaching his nest. They look like small airplanes when they fly by so close to us...

The group of kids from Zarasai covered the first 12 km out of  the city, together with Tamas and Franz. Well done - thanks for your help!

We had two police cars escorting us. They simply put on their lights and off we went. There's no speed limit if you are with the police...

The runners arriving in Dukstas.

The mayor was waiting, together with a group of children and their parents...

Shining eyes and smiling faces everywhere...

While waiting for the runners to catch up with us, Ieva the great prepared tortillas for us. Yummy....

The last 500m into Ignalina...

... here the mayor greeted us in the main square, in front of the city hall. He told us how much he values the goals of the Run. Ignalina not only has many great sportsmen, but also has several partner cities in different countries.

We then drove back some 50 km and after another 10 minutes driving on a path through the forest, we finally arrived at our organizer Janis's cottage. It is so far away from  everything that it does not even have electricity! A few metres from the house is an open 'kitchen' and right behind it, a wonderful lake. After a short rainshower the sun came back out and I just grabbed my photo gear and ran down to the lake. There was a rainbow but unfortunately it was not bright enough to get a picture of it. But there were a lot of other things around.

That's how I look like on the 'hunt.' You've got to have patience and get really close to take good pictures. Check out what I found down there at the lake...

An old rowing boat...

Water drops...

More water drops...

No, nobody home there... I was kneeling in the mud to get a good shot of that abandoned snail-house.

Sunset. Time to go to bed... Good night :)
