Lithuania 2 July: Ignalina - near Vilnius

Today we woke up in the silence of the forest. Stillness is something magical. I was already up at 5 o'clock today. When I went out of our wooden house, into the forest, the only thing I could hear was the birds singing. It was a little foggy but very beautiful outside. On the way down to the lake I decided to go for a swim. The lake was calm and peaceful - not even the mosquitoes were awake yet. When I came out of the fresh water I just sat down near the lake and enjoyed listening to the silence of the morning...

My first photo today...

The mayor of Ignalina had already met us by 8 o'clock. We gave him the torch and he cheerfully started today's run with us...

Long and hilly roads. Tamas, the lone runner, on his way...

The people of Svencionys gave us a nice welcome. After some kind words we were invited to have tea, grown and produced here in this town.

A big selection of teas in a nice wooden box - every tea lover's treasure box...

Since there were quite a few people gathered near the monument, I took the liberty of asking them all to come and run with us...

... and they did come - not only the mayor, but almost everyone around...

In Pabrade we had a meeting scheduled as well. And who was waiting there for us? Kids!! Yeah....

They were all enthusiasm...

... happiness...

and joy...

Everyone had to hold the torch once and then we were running together. Woohooo....

A furry fella we met along the way.

While Tamas was 'feeding' the torch...

.. Gints was feeding himself... :)

Before running to Vilnius, we all had a well-deserved lunch break beside the road.

Yes, that's fantastic... Vidas, one of our coordinators here in Lithuania.

... shoot some hoops - old school.

I saw this scene somewhere in the countryside near Vilnius. It just looked so funny...

... Here we are at the huge city sign for the capital, Vilnius.

In Vilnius we had a small but very nice meeting near the city centre. We met the city's sport representative and two friends of the Run who have been supporting us for years! Thank you for the nice moments...

... everyone was presented with a T-shirt and a medal...

... Some put it on right away. Welcome to our team!

"... really, you are running all the way...?"

On the square...

... here kitty, kitty, kitty...

We kept going for some 30 km after Vilnius, just so we have less kilometres to run tomorrow. Vidas invited us to his parents' house, near the place were we stopped running. Car cleaning, dinner, soccer and working on the reports - that's what our evening program looked like. See you tomorrow....
