Uruguay 29 October: Young

Uruguay is a most beautiful and progressive country in South America. Some academics would say that the word ´Uruguay´ refers to ´uru´, bird; `gua´, land and `y´, water. It may mean the `river of birds´ in the guarani language.

Located nearly 320 km away from Montevideo, the Capital City, tourists are welcomed in Young, Rio Negro State, a typical town of hard working farmers but also many, many children and teenagers.

Local institutions, enterprises and organizations in Young have celebrated the World Harmony Run arrival with much committment, love and hope for world peace and tangible oneness.

We are still much moved by their kind invitation and reception of runners and the Harmony Torch!

Coordinated by the Young Day School, 13 educational institutions have spent the last three months exploring ways for World Harmony in every discipline and ended all together with two fantastic sunny days of a huge international family gathering, the most significant in South America this year.

Schoolchildren and students have made 100 flags in rice paper representing the participating countries and they finished all of them on the United Nations Day, October 24.

Five days later 100 kites representing the colors of these countries were sent high away in the sky with messages of peace and harmony for the whole world.

Look at the beautiful kites!
