Australia 13 July: Broome

After a long stretch of dry running, we are finally heading east into the more tropical areas of northern Australia and on the homeward stretch of the 111-day journey. Arriving in Broome yesterday we all looked forward to a day off to refresh ourselves for the last third of the journey and to have our final ocean swim for some time, before heading into crocodile territory.

As a team we are all very happy with the four vehicles that are carrying us upon the highways and dirt roads of the continent. But so far we have not had a team picture of the runners with the vehicles, so we decided a day off at Cable Beach was a perfect opportunity to combine a team picture and a swim.

But first we had to clean up and get into our best uniforms...

Cable Beach provided the perfect setting for a photo shoot and some fun ... the fleet...

We had a lot of fun jumping around – see the gallery for more of the various poses the team came up with.

We headed off in the afternoon to the Malcolm Douglas Wildlife Park, where we had the chance to present Malcolm Douglas with the World Harmony Run Torch and a special Torch-Bearer Award for his 40 years of work dedicated to the care and conservation of wildlife throughout Australia, as well as his extensive media role in providing inspiration, entertainment and education.

We were then invited to a tour of both of his crocodile and wildlife parks in Broome, for which we were very grateful!

Malcolm himself conducts feeding tours and he invited us to come along to see how these cold-blooded creatures live in a wild setting.

Special thanks to Eagle Boys Pizza for a feast this evening of our favourite meal.

The evening was a chance to relax and fix a few bent or broken torches.
