Live from the road report by Seth Feldman - 24 May:

A beautiful sunny day in Toronto. The temperature was cool but not cold, and the chilling winds of recent days had gone away, making it a perfect day for a run.

We left Toronto early in the morning for the nearby city of Oshawa. At St. Gregory’s Catholic School, the ceremony was held out of doors, and Principal Mike Forgioni and his small group of around 100 students recieved us with bright smiles.

Mr. Forgioni also inspired us with his own unique philosophy of community building, what he calls the “Mayberry Principle,” which involves strengthening the role of those who are less fortunate so that they may rise to positions of leadership.

At the end of the event, Mr. Forgioni thanked us and promised to entertain us with a big breakfast should we return next year!

Canada, 24 mai : Oshawa et Toronto. Compte rendu en direct de la route par Seth Feldman. Une belle journée ensoleillée, fraîche, à Toronto! Le vent glacial des derniers jours s'est arrêté, ce qui rend ce jour-ci idéal pour la course. Nous avons quitté Toronto de bonne heure pour nous rendre à Oshawa, une ville voisine. Là, à l'école catholique St-Gregory, nous avons participé à une cérémonie à l'extérieur de l'école. Le directeur, M. Mike Forgioni et un groupe de 100 étudiants nous ont accueilli avec leurs resplendissants sourires. Ce dernier a partagé avec son auditoire des propos inspirants et a présenté sa propre philosophie de croissance communautaire, qu'il nomme " le Principe Mayberry ". Cette approche met en valeur les moins valorisés de sorte qu'ils puissent accéder à des postes de leadership. À la fin de l'événement, M. Forgioni nous a remercié et nous a promis un gros déjeuner si nous revenions l'an prochain!

In Toronto, we led a short run through several city blocks with a group consisting of members of the track and field teams and the “peace patrol” of Pope Paul VI Catholic School. Made up of students from the upper grades, the peace patrol is responsible for ensuring that disputes among their fellow students are resolved in a non-violent manner.

The kids were so energetic and we had such fun laughing and joking with them outside the school when the run was finished.

De retour à Toronto, nous avons couru avec des membres des équipes piste et pelouse et avec la patrouille de la paix de l'école catholique Pope Paul VI. Composée d'élèves des niveaux plus avancées, cette patrouille s'assure que les disputes entre camarades de classe se résolvent de façon non-violente. Les jeunes étaient remplis d'énergie; après la course, nous nous sommes amusés à rigoler et à blaguer avec eux à l'extérieur de l'école.
