Downtown Toronto is a firmament of ethnic diversity.

Our day began at Rose Avenue Elementary School in the Cabbage Town district where people of just about every background have gathered together to live.

The school is, in fact, among the most diverse in the city and stands as a model for the ideal of harmony and togetherness that the run strives to embody. Phys. ed. teacher Ken Glance seemed very interested as he introduced the runners with heart-felt words, and the children entertained us with a rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine” accompanied by the movements of an improvised dance.

Canada, le 26 mai: Toronto et Whitby Le centre-ville de Toronto est un firmament de diversité ethnique. Notre journée débuta à l’école élémentaire Rose Avenue dans le quartier Cabbage Town où des gens de divers milieux se retrouvent pour y vivre ensemble. Cette école est, en fait, parmi les plus diversifiées de la ville et est une parfaite représentation de l’harmonie et de l’esprit d’unité que notre course représente. Le professeur d’éducation physique, M. Ken Glance, s’est montré très intéressé. Il présenta les coureurs avec des paroles venant du coeur. Les enfants nous divertirent avec leur interprétation de la chanson de John Lennon « Imagine », le tout accompagné de mouvements de danse.

The students and teachers at St. Leo's Catholic Elementary School in Whitby were cheerful, open and receptive to the message of the run. After the presentation, the entire assembly moved out into the school yard where the torch was passed around the massive circle formed by the students.

Les étudiants et les professeurs à l’école élémentaire St. Leo's Catholique à Whitby étaient joyeux, ouverts et réceptifs au message de la Course. Après la présentation, l’assemblée au complet se rendit dans la cour d’école où le Flambeau fit le tour de l’immense ronde formée par les étudiants. Merci au directeur Adjoint M. Perry de nous avoir fait sentir à ce point les bienvenus.
