Canada 20 April: Tofino - Port Alberni

April 25th - Opening Ceremony video coverage by StrongHeart Productions.

Running into Tofino's Village Green we were greeted with the most colorful and thunderous welcome from the students of Tofino's Wickaninnish School.  Below the students performed a traditional dance accompanied by vocals and drum  - it was beautiful.

The World Harmony Run Torch-Bearer Award was presented to Levi Martin, Elder of Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations. The award was accepted on his behalf by his close relative Grace, who then shared some inspiring words.

Brad Dusseault also received the World Harmony Run Torch-Bearer Award for his educational leadership. Brad is Principal of Tofino's Wickaninnish Community School.

Event organiser Gord Johns, from the Tofino Chamber of Commerce, was our great MC!.

The children gathered holding up their peace-themed artwork and signs that they had created.

Each student held the torch and made their wishes for World Harmony and then we went for a run all together. After waving goodbye, the team continued our run into Ucluelet. We couldn't resist stopping at Long Beach on the way for some photos and a climb up some volcanic rocks.

Our day actually began by running along the beach, just steps from our fantastic hotel room at the Tin Wis Best Western pictured below at sunrise.

After a quick breakfast, we took the Tofino Water Taxi to the tiny Wickaninnish Island, so beautiful! We spent some time exploring and then walked part way into the freezing cold ocean waters - very invigorating! This was a symbolic start to the Canadian Run, a way of linking with the Hawiian Islands - where the World Harmony Run took its first steps in 2012.  Many thanks to Vicky Husband of Victoria, BC. for making this adventure possible!

In Port Alberni, where we spent the night, the local Smitty's restaurant offered us a complimentary meal - even though we came late and they were actually closed! The good-natured staff gave us great service and lots of good food.
