Latvia 28 July: Kuldiga - Ventspils

We started in front of the city hall of Kuldiga, where the Kuldiga Marathon Running Club was already waiting. They came with a huge bus again, full of runners who joined us all the way to the regional border.

We speeded up for the remaining kilometres, to be on time at the edge of the city of Ventspils.

As we arrived, a group of kids from the Ventspils sport school Spars greeted us, and with police guidance we ran together all the way to the Ventspils Olympic Centre. The kids covered the 4 kilometres without any problems!

At the Olympic Centre, the deputy mayor welcomed us. Dancers and playback singers performed for us.

Olympic Javelin Champion, Dainis Kula from Latvia also spoke and held the torch. He won the Olympics in 1980 with a very impressive distance of over 91 metres! Thanks to the Department of Sports of Ventspils City Council for welcoming us and so generously financing the events in the city!

Afterwards we went to a Baltic beach, where a Baltic Triathlon Cup was going on. We were able to present the World Harmony Run and talk about the project.

Once the presentation was over, the team knew no restrictions and raced to the beach for a few refreshing steps in the chilly Baltic Sea.

In the evening we left Latvia by boat, crossing over to the Estonian island of Saaremaa. SSC Ferries were very supportive of World Harmony Run message and gave us a generous discount.

Thank you Latvia for a most inspiring World Harmony Run and all the nice moments! We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to next year!
