USA 21 May: Carter, OK. To Clarendon, TX

Wellington, TX— a small town with a big heart

Now we are five girls on the team. Sevati joined us in Oklahoma City. The women’s team covered the remaining mileage in Oklahoma up until the border of Texas.

When we finished running we headed to Wellington, were we had to wait to switch vehicles. Having a little time to spare, we decided to go for a car wash at a gas station. Sevati asked for directions so we headed there and washed the car, right as we were finished a car stopped. It was Debbie Shaver, the same lady who had given directions to Sevati.

As it turned out Debbie and her granddaughter Hannah Briggs, wanted to take a picture with the torch. Then Debbie picked up her two grandchildren, Cody and Michael Briggs and we took more pictures with them. They were so nice and we had such a good time with them. They even gave us a bunch of key rings, pens and pencils for the whole team. And then as we were about to leave town Eddie Davis and his nice grandson Matt pulled up to our car and asked what we were doing and if we needed water and ice. We always need those, especially now that it is getting much hotter as we go south and west. They went back to their place to get two big coolers full of ice and gallons of water. Since we did not have a proper container for the ice they offered us one of their ice chests!!!

We want to thank you guys for stopping, entertaining us and supporting us in so many ways. You have shown us that Wellington is a good place with good people!!!

All our gratitude goes to all of you for making this day so special.

Elke (Austria) and Sevati (El Salvador)

When we reached our accommodation today, the Bar H Dude Ranch, it turned out to be a real ranch with horses and cows and rattlesnakes. Luckily we could go out for a horseback ride, which I have not done since I was six years old.

Sevati, Linda, Maria, Damon and I were guided by real cowboys and cowgirls. It was fun to see that the horses which one of the girls chose for us fit exactly our own personality! Mine turned out to be a little stubborn. He did not listen too much to me! His name was Cisco and I liked him a lot. We were riding along little pathways and we were able to see their whole ranch. Out here at the ranch it is so peaceful and friendly.

Everything is kept so simple. I am really happy to be out here, to meet the people from the ranch and get a real feeling of life in Texas.

Anja (Germany)

The intensity and pace with which our wide ranging experiences have taken us for the last two days are opening a new window for me. I am beginning to see and realize the full scope of the World Harmony Run and its ever-growing and transcending achievements.

We have been to two big events, four schools in total, with hundreds of children and their teachers welcoming us in Oklahoma City. Their reception for us has been outstanding, demonstrating their enthusiasm about, and understanding of, what world harmony is and should be.

What we have shared has already become fruitful, especially since two local TV stations came to the program we had with two schools yesterday, Eisenhower and Hillcrest in Oklahoma City, and may even broadcast it nationally. When I heard about it, I was already running out of the city. It was an extremely hot and humid day, about 100 degrees F or 35 C, and I was doing 13 miles, the most miles since I arrived on the run. But hearing this news gave me the strength to overcome all the obstacles presented by the extreme weather conditions.

Whether it is just one single person waving or offering a kind word, or hundreds of people we meet in ceremonies as we share our thoughts on harmony and friendship, the powerful effect it has on me and those involved with the World Harmony Run is the same.

So I feel privileged and blessed to be one of a handful of brave souls who have embarked on this remarkable journey. I can share only a few of my experiences but I cherish each and every experience along the way.

Thank you so much to Loves Country Store for providing us with a delicious lunch.

Goran (Yugoslavia)
