USA 11 June: Thayne, WY, to Idaho Falls, ID

This way of life is exhausting. We each run ten miles a day; often up steep hills and in the rain or the hot sun. We run every day; unlike most runners we do not take breaks. Our bodies often cry for sympathy, we respond by running longer and harder.

Some may ask what keeps us going. The answer is the love we receive from the people, and their deep understanding and resonance with our simple message of harmony.

Great change comes from small, symbolic actions. “Baby Steps” is a powerful tool for self-transformation. Maybe that first baby step is the hardest and requires the most courage. I never thought I could run eight miles a day, every day, week after week. But the Harmony Run has proved me wrong; and I am so grateful for that.

I run with twelve other people from all over the world. I knew many of them before the run, but only vaguely. In any other context a group of strangers living and running together would quickly degenerate into fighting and bickering, prime material for Reality TV. But we live, run and play together in perfect harmony.

A few nights ago I had an interesting dream. I saw that I was the guest of honor on a celebrity novelty show. The celebrity, a sweet old actor, led me to my seat on stage. The audience applauded thunderously. I turned to face my host, and then realized that I had no idea who he was or why in heck he was famous. The applause died down and then there was a moment of silence in which I didn’t know what to say.

“What’s your name?” I asked. The question reverberated through the huge hall and I realized I had just committed the faux pas of the century. Mercifully I woke up before I had to stick my running shoes in my mouth on national TV.

I guess this dream has something to do with my fear of the unknown. As Harmony Runners, we constantly face new people and new situations. This requires both poise and bravery. Without these qualities how can we have harmony? Let us all courageously face the future, and embrace the light which we feel it will soon bring.

Idaho Falls Welcomes Us Warmly

As we were running through Idaho Falls yesterday, we were treated to two great surprises by local Idahoans. The first one was in the center of town when we were met by two local television stations.

Tammy from NBC affiliate KPVI TV was doing a story about the World Harmony Run and interviewed me as part of her story.

Then Sabrina Suzuki from the CBS affiliate TV station interviewed two of our women runners, Maria and Sevati, while my interview was going on in the same parking lot. We watched both news coverages at around 10:00 p.m. and they were superb. We really appreciate when the media chooses to come out and report on our progress as we try to share the message of harmony throughout the world. The media makes it that more effective in reaching so many more people with this important message.

We also appreciate when people willingly offer small tokens of their appreciation for what we are doing. As we were running out of Idaho Falls, my teammates of the day, Goran and Slava, were offered very delicious thick vanilla milk shakes by Reed’s Dairy. We are grateful to Jamie and her staff for offering these to us at the end of a long day of running. I have heard of Reed’s, and even visited there years ago remembering that they have their own dairy products fresh from their own cows. I wish them all lots of harmoooooooooony!!!

Finally, we are always extremely grateful to the hotels and motels that offer accommodations for the night.

The Shilo Inn of Idaho Falls is a fantastic place with a really hot Jacuzzi spa and good size swimming pool along with very clean and big rooms for our recovery. Thank you all for such thoughtful contributions to our team.
