France 2 July: Château-Thierry - Sainte Ménehoulde

We started this morning in Château-Thierry, as the distance from Paris had already been covered. Our powerful running team arrived at the city hall, where we met the deputy mayor and the head of the sport department. Two runners from the athletic club of Château-Thierry carried the torch for the first few kilometres.

Château-Thierry is also the home town of the famous poet Jean de la Fontaine.

Lunch on the road...

Afterwards, a weight check...

After passing through the vineyards of the Champagne region, we reached Troissy. We had a really hearty reception at the primary school there.

The deputy mayor came, too and we had a good time with the kids. The deputy mayor was quite impressed by our "professional" performance.

Our Slovakian runner Vlado kept all the kids busy!

In Epernay, a walker and the president of the local jogging club awaited us.

Endless roads and cornfields...

In Châlons en Champagne the head of the sport department and the president of the athletic club received us. They showed us around in their sport facilities.

We enjoyed a few minutes of sport of a very different kind than running!

Finally we reached Sainte Ménehoulde, where the deputy mayor and the head of the sport department, together with a big group of walkers carried the torch to the centre of the town.

A short presentation in the city hall ended our day.
