Iceland 6 June: Varmahliđ - Laugarbakki

Today was a real running day; Lenka alone ran 34 kilometres, in celebration of her 34th birthday. On the road we met a young couple from New York who joined us for quite some distance.

In Blönduós we met a group of young people, some of whom had joined us in the past. Sunna Gestsdóttir, the Icelandic record-holder in 100m sprint also participated in the run. She was extremely kind to us.

After a long day of running, we enjoyed ourselves in the hot outdoor pools until 10 pm and ended this eventful day with the traditionally huge portion of ice-cream sponsored by Viđir.

Date: 06-06. Time: 00:06. Location: Hofsos, Iceland, Sun is just touching the horizon.

A perfect morning.

Viđir getting ready for the day (shaving).

The beaches, black from volcanic stone.

A good surface for running.

In charge of today's events: Viđir the Viking.

A typical valley in Iceland.

First contact with the World Harmony Run torch.

These young people ran with us through Blönduós, their home town.

Some of them had joined us in the past.

In the Ice Museum.

Just a few days ago, a polar bear entered the area and was spotted very close to this town. Very much to the dislike of most people, he was shot just a few hours later. :-((((

Pick your favourite animal!

Sunna Gestsdóttir, Iceland's record-holder in the 100 metre sprint, holding the torch.

Sherry and Ian Golden from NY met us on the road and spontaneously joined us for quite some miles.

They were in excellent running shape...

Some of us can only dream of that :).

Iceland is not only the country of sheep but, even more so, the country of the jeep.

Getting closer to our final destination - scary for those of us who are so fond of this country.

United in friendship.

Ooops! No cooking facilities at our accommodation place! With the help of a very kind neighbour, great Viktoria managed to prepare and serve us dinner.
