Iceland 5 June: Akureyri - Varmahliđ

If you love nature and you want to go for something different, you simply have to visit Iceland. Since it's one of the most expensive countries in the world, the World Harmony Run is just the perfect opportunity to get in touch with the uniqueness of this island and its people. After a day of travelling, the new team got together in Iceland's beautiful 'Capital of the North', Akureyri. We were invited to 'Nonnahús' Museum and from there we ran into the sports ground where hundreds of little kids had already gathered. The Mayor gave us a very warm welcome and even the Town Council joined us. We sincerely thank our birthday child Suren for organizing this beautiful event.

Leaving Sweden...

A first glance at fascinating Iceland.

On our way from Reykjavik to Akureyri.

I would say that this was much more exciting than watching a movie...

Shortly before midnight...

The famous 'Nonni', Jón Sveinsson, with Marek in front of the museum in Akureyri.

Running to the opening ceremony.

The Mayor, Sigrún Björk Jakóbsdóttir was extremely kind and encouraging.

A wish for Harmony.

An athletic town indeed!

The Mayor with a very talented runner, or you could also just say: mother and son.

Representatives from various TV and radio stations were present, too.

The way houses used to be built in the old days.

Our Czech runners meeting other Czech runners on the way; they were really into it!

Ondrej, our Czech team captain.

Hraun, the famous mountain.

Our Hungarian representative.

Lenka, our ultra-runner.

It's always a question of fate whether it's an uphill or a downhill run when your turn comes!

The unique Icelandic horses.

We stayed overnight at Hofsos, another gorgeous place.
