Italy 27 April: Frosinone - Campobasso

Another sunny day in the region of Lazio lay ahead of us today.

Because of the long distance of 150 km we had to split our team in the morning: Team A went on the road and headed for Cassino, Team B stayed in Frosinone and visited a school.

200 kids gave us a warm welcome and the whole meeting turned into an interval training; uphill and downhill. Several times we ran with all the kids...

Later in the morning our two teams met again, and, after a little while, Cassino's proud and impressive Abbey of Monte Cassino greeted us from its steep rock.

In Cassino we visited two schools. The first visit was attended by 500 kids, and the second visit was attended by 80 kids!

The inimitable Italian hurly-burly ensued! All the kids passed the torch and ran with us. At the first school, even the teachers ran, much to the excitement of the kids! Everyone got great joy out of the proceedings. A meeting with the mayor in the "municipio" (city hall) ended our stay in Cassino and sent us onwards to Campobasso.

We crossed the Apennine mountains again which we found a source of some good hill work and lots of tunnels. Fortunately we carry a light torch with us.

After running through quite breathtaking countryside we reached Campobasso. During the last few kilometers, when local runners had joined us, some rain caught up with us and one cloud accompanied us all the way to the city hall. A hearty meeting with the mayor and other city representatives ended our official running day.

The day ended with an outstanding traditional Italian meal served in several courses in the company of local friends - truly one of today's highlights.
