Italy 28 April: Campobasso - Foggia

The mayor started today's run by carrying the torch to the first of two schools in Campobasso.

We met a few classes and introduced the run. After a hearty speech we continued with today's morning program. At the second school a cheering crowd of kids was gathered and waited enthusiastically for the torch.

After the introduction, Stefano, our Italian coordinator, made a strategic mistake: he gave the torch straight to the kids! This triggered the traditional pandemonium! Happily the torch somehow found its way from hand to hand, while some teachers made a desperate attempt to keep control!

Everything went well and the meeting reached its climax when the police stopped the local traffic for a final run with all the hundreds of kids!

Finally we left Campobasso and made our way towards Foggia through an extremely peaceful and most beautiful countryside with gentle green hills and ancient olive trees...

An old friend returned in the late afternoon: yesterday's cloud was back and a few refreshing raindrops accompanied us on our final run (on the highway!) into Foggia.

The police (extremely nice and helpful as everywhere in Italy) led us to the city hall where we met the mayor of Foggia for the final meeting of today!
