Morocco 28 May: Souk el Arba - Sidi Kacem

The arrival to Souk el Arba du Rharb was absolutely glorious. We entered the city being accompanied by two buses of runners... as long as we have reached the city another battalion of runners was waiting for us. They had such vital energy that it just went out of our control and we simply had to surrender to the unrestrained power of the masses. The streets of the city were just flooded with people. It was a feeling like running a New York City Marathon.

The whole day was topped with gift giving ceremony. It was a striking meeting, in presence of the Mayor and all the other prominent authorities of the city, surrounded by hundreds of thundering people. We were given a symbolical key to the city and each of us received a big box of surprise. The whole program was concluded by the wonderful dinner at a private residence. We are treated here in Morocco with such dignity, care, hospitality and generosity which is just beyond of any expression. None of us have ever experienced anything like this before.

After a very nice and relaxed breakfast we set out on our journey again. We got a nice company by a school children again.

After covering about 20 km we have reached the city of Mechra ben Ksiri. We were greeted by the Mayor and other city officials in the presence of many children.

We visited three primary schools with amazing cultural program in the spirit of Moroccan folklore musical and dancing performance.

We had to cover then another 47 km in savanna-like landscape on the blazing sun.

We all got a little of sunstroke but there was nothing to worry about because we have got an ambulance and police escort since the very first day. There is something or someone who is looking after us all the time…

Our final destination was Sidi Kacem today. We were received by the Mayor and another city authorities. We were lodged in quite a luxurious hostel run by the local oil refinery.

We are looking forward to our dinner since we have not eaten much since the morning.
