USA 18 June: Applegate, OR to Crescent City, CA

Video of the first month in USA

The Girls Team whips up a sumptuous breakfast buffet at our mountain campsite.

Pearls of Love and Humility

With a late day start, we had more time to accomplish some important tasks in the morning at the Glenyan Campground where we stayed last night.

The fresh country air, the warm morning sun, and a nice hot meal… life is good indeed!

After a wonderful breakfast made by the women’s team which we usually never have time for on a typical day, some of us were interviewed by Colleen from the local ABC Affiliate.

ABC T.V. camera women , Colleen Bormann, came out to our campsite to interview the team and to get an inside look at life on the road.

She was so kind and understanding in coming all the way over to our campground to cover the story of our long journey. We are grateful to her for her efforts in spreading a universal message of harmony through the valuable medium that she works for, ABC TV News.

Pujari and Salil rejoin the Run just in time for our arrival to the spectacular Pacific Northwest.

As we packed up camp and headed down the road we were all eagerly looking forward to our next meeting about 20 miles away in a small town called Talent.

Bill and Judy Pearl, our “First Couple of Fitness”, opened their beautiful and inspiring home for all of us to enjoy for one memorable afternoon.

Bill Pearl and his wife Judy have been friends of ours for many years and have always welcomed us when we pass through their area. They led us to their newly renovated home in the countryside of the town of Talent, surrounded by beautiful fruit orchards, endless mountains, and thick green forests.

The room was overflowing with warmth and joy as the team sang the World Harmony Run Song .

Our humble friends were so welcoming and hospitable as if we were their own family coming home after a long absence. Ginger, their beautiful dog, was also as friendly as if we had known her for years.

Bill and his wife Judy greatly enjoyed viewing a video of the Run’s first month.

Our first stop in this small complex of buildings and gardens was the big red barn. But it was not just any old barn. Inside was an immortal and legendary gym, a huge array of weights and exercise machines that Bill and Judy and all those whom they have trained work out on.

Body-building legend Bill Pearl gives the team an unforgettable tour of his weight-training facility located in a barn at his beautiful country home

.

They both workout six days a week starting at 4:00 in the morning! Who else has that kind of discipline? In this gym many bodybuilding champions have been trained by Bill over the years including nine Mr. America’s and fourteen Mr. Universes. Bill has been training himself for about 65 years and has won Mr. Universe six times himself. He was also voted as the ‘Best built man of the Century’. He is still probably the best built man of his age in his 70’s, but looking like he is 20 years younger than that.

Bill humbly stands beside a trophy that was presented to him by his dear friend and admirer Sri Chinmoy , the founder of the World Harmony Run.

Among their other hobbies and talents, Bill and Judy also run a fitness business of health products, books and training programs, called Bill Pearl Enterprises for those who want to have true fitness. They also take care of three tortoises that are at least 80 years old and Judy maintains a wonderfully landscaped yard with gardens and a small fruit tree orchard. They went out of their way to share with us as much as they could and to make us feel right at home, all 11 of us.

Sevati describes her experiences of running with the torch for the TV audience.

They even offered an apartment to stay at any time, sincerely opening up not only their home but their hearts as well. We all found it quite difficult to leave there after two hours but we will cherish these precious moments with our two extraordinary friends for a very, very long time. The last name of ‘Pearl’ certainly fits this wonderful couple as they are both precious gems in this wonderful world of harmony and light.

As if this Father’s Day hadn’t already given us enough inspiring experiences, we finished it with a run through the majestic Giant Redwood Forests of Northern California.

What better way to leave southern Oregon than to enter northern California among the huge and powerful Redwood trees. We are just touching upon this forest wonderland but even one tree here seems to contain the life-energy of a whole city or forest of normal trees. The huge scale of some of these beautiful creations cannot be captured on film or in words. But we are trying to capture a bit of these natural miracles by sharing them with you as we quickly pass through this part of California and head for the Pacific Ocean in Oregon again.

Staying the night at the Crescent City KOA was very peaceful but it was also very cold and damp. It is almost like a tropical wetness without the heat. We are so grateful to Joan and Kevin Fallon for a great campsite and wonderful hospitality in this scenic area of northern California.
