Prof. Fiona Wood

Clinical Professor at University of WA
and director of the Royal Perth Hospital Burns Unit

National Patron for 2008

Dr. Fiona Wood is a Clinical Professor with the School of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Western Australia and Director of the McComb Research Foundation. She is also the director of the Royal Perth Hospital Burns Unit and the Western Australia Burns Service.

Prof. Fiona Wood

Dr. Wood has become known internationally for her invention of spray-on skin for burns victims. In 2002, she and her dedicated team at the Royal Perth Hospital Burns Unit treated 28 survivors of the Bali bombings. Thankfully, she had the vision to plan for a large-scale disaster five years before the tragedy occurred. Her exceptional surgical skill and inspired leadership saved many lives.

She was named Australian of the Year for 2005.

In a letter accepting her honorary role as a National Patron of the World Harmony Run 2008, Prof. Wood writes: "I believe strongly in connecting people with core human values and your movement is an example of just that."
