John Brumby

Statement of Support from the Premier of Victoria

I am delighted to be a Patron of the 2008 World Harmony Run. This event is a highly successful and visible means of connecting people across the world through a shared commitment to peace, to a greater understanding between peoples and countries, and to the power of symbolic acts to generateaction and real outcomes in the world.

A team of relay runners from 16 countries will trace a path around the entire continent of Australia. The Relay and the Torch will pass through Victoria from 17 – 24 May, visiting many communities and towns.

This is one of the most ambitious challenges in the 21 year-old history of the Run and I commend this opportunity to all Victorians. I encourage you to participate in any way you can and to welcome the runners with traditional Victorian hospitality and enthusiasm.

Victoria has benefited greatly from the diversity of people who choose to make this State their home, and who have enriched the lives of all Victorians in doing so. The World Harmony Run is a splendid opportunity for Victorians and Australians to demonstrate their endorsement of the ideals and values that underpin our community and this inspirational event.

I wish all the participants and organisers every success - let's all make the 2008 World Harmony Run an event to remember.

Hon John Brumby MP
Premier of Victoria
