Germany 26 May: Kyritz - Brandenburg

It's Monday morning and school time in Germany. We started happily at the "Goethe Grundschule" in Kyritz.

The kids lined up on both side of the road and we gave them "high fives"! After a short presentation we all ran around the schoolyard.

Around noon we arrived in Rathenow, where kids from the "Friedrich Ludwig Jahn-Grundschule" were waiting for us at the entrance to the town. Together we went to their school and got an enthusiastic welcome.

Shortly afterwards, we went to the city hall to meet the deputy mayor. He invited us into the city hall for a group picture, before joining us to run to the next school, "Geschwister Scholl Grundschule".

We had another great meeting with the kids and after delicious refreshments, we left for Premnitz.

Kids from the "Grundschule am Dachsberg" were waiting for us in groups every few hundred metres and, as a long-distance relay team, we carried the torch together to their school.

The deputy mayor and the school director welcomed us and we had a great time with the kids.

It's extremely inspiring how cheerful the kids in East Germany are!

Together we even turned the refreshments into a game!

Everybody was running in front!

As we approached Wusterwitz, more enthusiastic kids ran with us. The mayor and a city representative awaited us at a peace tree which was planted some years ago!

A nice acrobatic presentation on a horse, and on we went to Brandenburg.

At the entrance to Brandenburg we met kids from a "Kinderdorf", run by the German Red Cross. A short, hearty meeting ended our busy day.

Special thanks to the Axxon Hotel and the Pension "Zum Birnbaum" for hosting some of our runners.
