Our first stop on this clear sunny morning in Auer was a primary school where the children greeted us with a song and lots of excited shouting.

La nostra prima sosta in questa chiara e soleggiata mattina ad Auer è stata in una scuola elementare dove i bambini ci hanno accolto con un canto e molte grida eccitate.

The first 5km were a climb up the hill to Montagne, where another group of schoolchildren were gathered to meet us. The setting of this place was fantastic, with views across to the other side of the valley, which was deep green and full of birdsong amongst the trees.

I primi 5 km sono stati di salita in collina verso Montagne, dove un altro gruppo di scolari si era raccolto per incontrarci. la disposizione di questo posto era fantastica, con vista fino all'altro lato della vallata, che era immersa nel verde e piena di canti di uccelli tra gli alberi.

We continued on up the hill in the shade of the mountain, which climbed to 1984m at the Passerolle. We were rewarded at the top with the presence of the mighty Dolomiti which rose majestically right before us.

Abbiamo continuato a salire in collina all'ombra della montagna, che saliva fino a 1984m fino a Passerolle. Siamo stati ricompensati in cima con la presenza delle potenti Dolomiti che si innalzavano maestosamente proprio davanti a noi.

We then began the descent to San Martino on the other side of the pass. Crowds were gathered to watch the Giro d’Italia pass through the town, which it did in a matter of seconds.

Quindi abbiamo iniziato la discesa fino a San Martino sull'altro lato del passo. Una corona di persone si era raccolta per vedere il Giro d'Italia passare attraverso la città, cosa che è stata questione di un attimo.

There we met seven girls of about 12 or 13 years, from the Unione Sportiva Primiero San Martino, plus their coach. Most of them were sprinters, and were very excited to be part of the team for a while. We ran with them a short distance to the town square where the Mayor was waiting for us. He presented each of the Harmony Run team with a flag and welcomed us to his town. We were also treated to some welcome refreshment. For a few metres the Mayor ran with the torch and then we continued out of the town with the girls from the Unione Sportiva for the next 5km through the valley.

Qui abbiamo incontrato 7 ragazze di 12 o 13 anni, dell'Unione Sportiva Primiero San Martino, più il loro coach. La maggior parte di loro erano velociste, e sono state davvero felici di essere parte del team per un momento. Abbiamo corso con loro una breve distanza fino alla piazza della città dove il sindaco ci stava aspettando. Ha presentato ognuno del team della WHR con una bandiera e ci ha dato il benvenuto nella sua città. Ci è stato anche offerto un rinfresco di benvenuto. per pochi metri il sindaco ha corso con la torcia e quindi abbiamo continuato fuori dalla città con le ragazze dell'Unione Sportiva per i seguenti 5 km attraverso la vallata.

The next part of our route took us alongside a reservoir, which was fed by waterfalls from high up in the mountains. After a quick 15km we arrived at Pedavera where the Mayor greeted us and we had some photos taken in the town square. Back on the road we had a surprise meeting with Beppo, an enthusiastic and thoroughly Italian marathon runner from Feltre. He accompanied our runners for 10km until we met with his running club in a town called Fonzaso.

La parte successiva della nostra strada ci ha portato lungo un bacino, che era alimentato da cascate provenienti dall'alto delle montagne. Dopo 15 km veloci siamo arrivati a Pedavera dove il sindaco ci ha accolti e ci ha scattato qualche foto nella piazza della città. Indietro lungo la strada avevamo avuto un incontro a sorpresa con Beppo, un entusiasta e veramente ben allenato maratoneta italiano di Feltre. Ha accompagnato i nostri corridori per 10 km finchè ci siamo incontrati con il suo club di corsa in una città chiamata Fonzaso.

There, four of their fastest marathoners accompanied us to Feltre (13km away) at around a 4.00 min pace. In Feltre we had a reception at the beautiful old town hall, where the press photographers were waiting for us. We were each presented with a book about the city and its history by the Mayor, and then treated to drinks at the bar. The Mayor ran with the torch from the Town Hall to the bar, and was very happy to welcome us to the town.

Là, 4 dei loro più veloci maratoneti ci hanno accompagnato a Feltre (13 km avanti) al passo di circa 4 minuti al km. A Feltre c'è stata l'accoglienza nella bellissima e vecchia hall della città, dove i fotografi della stampa ci stavano aspettando. Ognuno di noi è stato presentato con un libro sulla città e la sua storia dal sindaco, e quindi ci è stato offerto da bere al bar.Il sindaco ha corso con la torcia dalla hall della città fino al bar, ed è stato veramente felice di darci il benvenuto nella città.

The president of the running club was also at the reception to meet us. Later, while we were having dinner, he arrived and gave all of us a T-shirt from the one of the races that they organise. So from the morning to the evening we ran from the mountainous South Tirol region, which was largely German-speaking, to the hills of Feltre which felt noticeably warmer and more Italian.

Il presidente del club di corsa è stato anche presente al ricevimento per incontrarci. Più tardi, mentre stavamo ancora mangiando, è arrivato per donare a tutti noi una maglietta di una delle corse che avevano organizzato. Così dalla mattina alla sera abbiamo corso dalla regione montagnosa del sud Tirolo, in cui si parlava perlopiù tedesco, fino alle colline di Feltre che sentivamo notevolmente più calde e più italiane.
