Early in the morning we left Lauria. It was a Sunday, and a meeting-free day. After the intense first week in Italy, we really enjoyed a day off and the simple run through the hills of Basilicata and Calabria.

La mattina di buon ora abbiamo lasciato Lauria. Era domenica e un giorno senza inontri. Dopo la prima intensa settimana in Italia ci siamo veramente goduti la possibilità di una giornata libera e il semplice correre attraverso le colline di Basilicsta e Calabria

We took the old road - running up and down for hours; we passed countless olive groves, orchards and traditional villages in the gorgeous countryside which seems to explode with all kinds shades of green...

Abbiamo preso la vecchia strada, corso su e giù per ore; passato infiniti olivi, orchidee, villaggi tradizionali e una meravigliosa campagna che sembrava esplodere in ogni varietà di verde....

...in some places we felt we were running in a different time...
...in alcuni posti sembrava di correre in un altro tempo...

After we reached Castrovillari, we had to drive to Sicily. The south of Italy happens to be a local WHR event this year, as we will travel from Italy to Malta....

We will be back to Castrovillari in a couple of days to continue the European Route...

Dopo aver raggiunto Castrovillari abbiamo dovuto proseguire sui nostri furgoni alla volta della Sicilia: l'estremo sud d'Italia quest'anno é staccato dalla rotta principale della Corsa, ma terremo una serie di eventi locali lungo il nostro viaggio per raggiungere Malta...

In un paio di giorni saremo di ritorno a Castrovillari per riprendere il tragitto Europeo...

We crossed over from Calabria to Messina and in the evening we reached Catania. Our local friends invited us for some great dinner!

abbiamo fatto la traversata dalla Calabria fino a Messina e in serata abbiamo raggiuntoCatania. I nostri amici del posto ci hanno invitato per una fantastica cena tutti insieme!

Even our French runners had to admit that the food in Italy is much better than in France - as you can see here in this historic document...

Anche le nostre podiste francesi hanno dovuto ammettere che il cibo in Italia é molto migliore che in Francia, come potete vedere su questo documento di portata storica...
