USA 22 June: Lincoln City, OR to Portland, OR

Today we offer our fond aloha to the gorgeous Pacific coast that filled us with so much energy and joy.

Video of the first month in USA

We left our campsite early in the morning on our way to our morning run and had enough time for one last encounter with the Pacific Ocean. The water was very cold and the wind made it feel even colder outside but the energy that we received from the vast and powerful and seemingly infinite ocean warmed our spirits and gave us great joy.

A lone surfer enjoys the blissful solitude of one of Oregon’s countless sheltered bays.

It was a bit of a sad moment when we started to head east away from this miraculous body of water teeming with life and energy.

Many in the audience had already read about us in the local newspaper and were thrilled to meet the international team.

Running to the city of McMinnville, we found our way to an outdoor musical performance presented by the Downtown Association. Patti Webb, the organizer, invited us to make a presentation to the group gathered there for the music.

A free lunchtime Concert presented the perfect opportunity for sharing the message of our journey across America.

There were about 50 people seated in an outdoor setup with a stage for the musicians. It was a brilliant, bright day as we ran the Torch to the gathering, each runner introducing themselves and their country as usual.

Our new Father and son team get into the spirit of the Run without missing a beat.

Most of our audiences are usually children as we have visited many schools over the past two months.

This audience, though, was mostly adults and it was nice to share with them our adventures and to inspire them to reflect on harmony in their own lives and how it can positively affect the children.

With years of professional experience as a chef and baker, Linda creates yet another gourmet dinner for a grateful bunch of hungry runners. Arpan was happy to assist with the blow-torched eggplant.

Our run for the day ended in the large and beautiful city of Portland. We had accommodations provided by the Bridgeport Value Inn in Tigard, a small town just south of Portland.

Thank you to the Bridgeport Value Inn.

Shelby, the owner, was very generous for the second year in a row in offering us four spacious rooms for our runners to rest for the night. There was a great jacuzzi hot tub there as well as a swimming pool, both of which were very relaxing and helpful for a speedy recovery of our tired muscles. Every contribution, small or large, including all the participation that we have seen so far help us to keep going and give us hope to reach our humble goal. We are all gratitude!
