Canada 29 May: Victoria

Oak Bay Mayor Christopher Causton cut a gold ribbon to signal the start of the run at McNeill Bay.

The team, consisting of WHR runners, local runners, including Dr. Sharon Bearpark and her team, carried the torch along the very windy waterfront to Clover Point.

Along the way, the inspiration and the symbolism of the torch was appreciated by spectators, no matter what their age.

Manjit Vasi of the Victoria Sikh Temple and Bhagwan Bandechha walked the entire route to join the runners at the Milennium Peace Stone, where Mr. Bandechha offered a prayer for world harmony in his native Punjabi.

Tomorrow the team will ferry the torch to the mainland for a ceremony in Peace Arch Park at the border crossing between Canada and the United States.
