Caribbean 20-21 May: Barbados

We left St. Thomas with fond memories in our hearts and smiles on our faces. The plane ride from St. Thomas to Barbados was quite an adventure. We flew with Liat, our official airline, down the Caribbean Islands stopping in at St. Kitts, Antigua Barbuda, St. Lucia before arriving in the beautiful island of Barbados.

Caribbean Coordinator Ketan Tamm passes time as we island hop our way from St. Thomas to Barbados. A total of four hops!!

We met our host and dear friend Mona Alleyne who escorted us to the beautiful hotel, Bougainvillea Beach Resort where we were to spend the next three nights.

A well earned breakfast back the beautiful Bougainvillea Beach Resort where we they are very generously hosting us during our stay in Barbados.

We made an impromptu stop at Caribbean Broadcasting Company where we met cameraman Chris Woods who interviewed us for the evening news . We did a quick reconnoiter of our running course for the next day.

Jenel our gracious waitress from Café Sol provided us with delicious burritos, great fuel for our early morning run.

May 21

At 4.15 am I was awakened rather rudely by my alarm clock so that we could get to our running route at 6.00 coordinated by Erik Clark of the Ufukuzo and Wibisco running clubs. Erik and his band of runners took us on a beautiful (but hilly) 11km (7 mile) run up to Mt. Hillaby the highest point in Barbados.

Starting out downhill, a good choice.

On top of Barbados’ highest point with new made friends from the Wabisco and Ufukuzo Road running clubs.

The run was no joke and I ran the entire course with Eric. I was very proud of myself.

Eric, with the torch, arranged for our morning run, thanks very much it was great to meet you.

Shortly after I was abruptly humbled after discovering that Eric is 60 years old. He looks like late 40’s. It was great to meet so such cheerful and enthusiastic runners. We met the true heart of Barbados in these runners.

As you can see our new found running friends were definitely in good shape.

In Barbodos everyone is content – even the horses.

Ketan and Salil headed off on a media tour with interviews with the newspapers the Nation and the Advocate as well as an interview with the Voice of Barbados the most popular radio station of the island.

Homagni and I set up a meals for the next couple of days which began with a fabulous lunch at the Ship Inn.

The wonderful staff at the Ship Inn.

Dinner was very kindly provided by Dmitry of the Opa restaurant, best pizza's on the island.

Harmony is undoubtedly spreading, you may not be able see it or hear it but if you silence your mind for a moment you can definitely feel it.
