Caribbean 2 June: St. Lucia

Friday morning brought us to St. Lucia. This was the second year in a row that St. Lucia hosted the World Harmony Run and we very excited to return to see old friends and the beautiful smiles of St. Lucia.

Upon arrival we drove an hour up the coast to Vieux Fort Technical Institute were the run was to begin. Students from students form Vieux Fort Secondary school A and B joined the run with students from Vieux Fort Technical School. Many of the students ran with us last year.

A police escort led the runners along a course took us along the coastline, where the temperature hovered around 100 degrees fahrenheit

At the closing ceremony Mr. Henry Mangal, the Permanent Sectary in the ministry of Youth and Sports, presided over the event. Saying how pleased he was that the World Harmony Run had returned to St. Lucia. Mr. Nintus Magre gave a stirring rendition of the National Anthem and team got to hear themselves sing the Harmony Run Theme song in a stadium.

We would also like to thank Mr. Victor Reid and Mrs Valeriana St. Helen, for their enthusiasm in bringing the event back to St. Lucia.

The Royal by Rex offered accommodation to the team for the second year thanks to the generosity of Roland.

"Memories of Hong Kong" Restaurant provided dinner bringing back memories of when the team visited China in 2005.

Again we would like to offer our gratitude to Liat Airlines who are providing air travel for us in the Caribbean.
