USA 29 June: Leavenworth, WA - Coulee City, WA

Today's running took us through a variety of dramatic landscapes.

From our start point in Leavenworth we ran between folds of mountains, crossing and recrossing the Columbia River.

East of the mountains the air became drier and the mountains were flanked with pretty orchards of cherry and apple trees.

In Waterville, WA we were very nicely greeted by Marsha Peterson, the Clerk Treasurer and Mayor Royal De Vaney. They were very happy to see us and congratulated us on our efforts.

A few very friendly citizens held the torch and wished us well.

The mountains eventually gave way to expansive agricultural plains.

Finally we came to the Coulee Dam area - a dramatic and inspiring landscape of huge rock outcrops interspersed with rivers, gullies and canyons. The ancient landscape was carved out by flood waters traveling at up to 60 miles per hour which had been released by the sudden breaching of a huge ice dam.

Thank you to our local co-ordinator Pipasa, who joined us out on the road today and covered lots of miles with lots of smiles.

Thank you so much to the Sky Deck Motel for offering rooms to boys team. Our stay was exquisite. The girls stayed in Coulee Dam, see tomorrow for details.
