USA 1 July: Drummond, MT - Townsend, MT

The whole team made their way to Camp Mak-A-Dream first thing this morning.

The camp provides an uplifting environment in beautiful rural surroundings to children with cancer. Chilren and counselors come from the entire US and abroad to spend their summer here.

We were invited to breakfast and were lucky enough to come on the day that the campers have a skit competition to see who gets to eat breakfast first.

The skits were very entertaining and gave everyone a lot of joy.

This poor cow was "tipped."

Chef Erin was the judge and jury to decide which skit pleased her the most.

After a breakfast of fruit and pancakes we offered the opportunity to present our program.

We felt very well received.

Beth Jones, the director of the camp received the Torch Bearer Award on the behalf of the camp.

Beth Jones and Stuart Kaplan, the Medical Director of the Camp.

Each camp member and volunteer came out to hold the torch and take some photos.

The joy was palpable.

The women's team got us back on the road.

We met Ron on our way to Garrison, MT.

His cattle were also quite interested in what we were doing.(Some more than others.)

Harita was delighted to reach the summit of McDonald Pass after climbing more than 3000ft to 6356ft.

Meanwhile, part of the men's team went to the Spring Meadow Triathlon in Helena.

They were able to meet with many of the athletes and share in the common ideal that an active and fit life leads to a more harmonious life.

Fortunately for the other half of the men's team, they inspired these two runners to join them running towards Helena down McDonald Pass.

Aden(on right) and Silas were very happy to run with us and vice versa!

We were all blessed to see the living version of our national symbol, the Bald Eagle.

Sila's mom, Jerrilyn and Aden's dad, Drake were very proud of the their boys for running with the torch, especially after just finishing their triathlon(800m swim, 3-mile run and 8-mile bike ride).

Unfortunately, there are several wild fires burning in Montana. We ran the day without the flame.

A big storm was luming.

Moni started to pick the pace. (Lightning will do that to a fella.)

Five runners from the cross-country running team of Townsend's High School joined us for a 3.7 mile run in the evening. They showed up despite a storm and suddenly cold weather. It got so cold we may not have stepped out of the car if they did not show up. :-) Thanks for the inspiration!

We greatly enjoyed everyone's company. Great job coach Dolan! You have a wonderful group of athletes. (We ran with some of them also the next morning when we left Townsend)

Thank you so much to Pizza Hut in Helena for offering us 3 pies for dinner.

We offer our heart-felt gratitude to the Red Lion Colonial in Helena for keeping our runners out of a huge thunder storm. You don't know how happy we were to be in such fine conditions!
